Over 230 peer-reviewed papers, h-index 71 on Google Scholar and over 16,000 citations. He runs isotope laboratories at the University of Arizona and at the University of Bucharest. His group defined processes such as arc root delamination and resolved the causes of magmatic cyclicity in orogens. Fellow of the Geological Society of America and member of the Romanian Academy of Sciences.

Specialist in funerary archaeology and human osteology, also at the “Francisc J. Rainer” Institute of Anthropology. Three books and 68 peer-reviewed articles on prehistoric and medieval cemeteries. He established a genetics laboratory and a bioarchaeology teaching partnership with Utica College, USA. His book on a Bronze Age settlement in southern Romania received a Romanian Academy award.

Professor at the Faculty of Physics and associated member of the Paleoclimate Dynamics group at the Alfred Wegener Institute. He works on climate variability from interannual to millennial timescales, AMOC dynamics, and early warning signals for tipping components. 46 papers in journals including Science, npj Climate and Atmospheric Science, and Geophysical Research Letters. Former Alexander von Humboldt Fellow, director of the Interdisciplinary School of Doctoral Studies at UB.
